Studio Policy

Missed Lessons

Lessons cancelled by the student will be made up when a minimum of 24 hours notice is received, and the cancellation is due to sudden illness or similar good cause.

Absences with less than 24 hours notice are considered unexcused. They will not be made up and will not be refunded.

In the case of sudden illness or an emergency situation with less than 24 hours notice, a make up lesson may be scheduled at my discretion depending on availability.

A maximum of 2 lesson cancellations/make-up lessons (with proper notice and/or short notice) will be accepted per student per academic year. A make-up lesson cancelled by the student will not be rescheduled. Additional make-up lessons may be scheduled at my discretion depending on availability.

I have scheduled three weeks in the year to accommodate make-up lessons as needed.

Lessons that fall on a statutory holiday are not part of the tuition or lesson schedule.

Any lessons I cancel will be made up, or refunded if I’m unable to make up the lesson.

Health and Safety

New protocol for in person lessons to ensure health and safety of everyone:
  • Student, parent and teacher will wear a mask at all times. Please bring your own mask. If you do not have a mask, disposable masks will be available at the front entrance.
  • Students will use hand sanitizer (provided at the front entrance) upon entering, and student and parent's temperatures will be taken.
  • Scheduling: there will be 15 mins scheduled between each lesson (family group) to allow for sanitizing the piano, door knobs etc. If you arrive early to your lesson, please wait in the car for the previous family to exit before entering to allow proper distancing
  • To limit the number of people in the studio at one time, only one parent may attend the lesson. Please do not bring younger siblings who do not have lessons at the studio
  • If students have any cold/flu symptoms, or anyone in their family have these symptoms, please do not attend the in person lesson. Rather we can have that week’s lesson online and resume to in person lessons in 14 days after symptoms have subsided.
  • If students arrive with any symptoms, the lesson will be cancelled and forfeited.

Online Lessons

Online Lessons are available via Zoom. Students will log on 5 to 10 minutes prior to their assigned lesson time and wait in the "waiting room" to be admitted.

For younger students, parent involvement is highly recommended in order to log on, set up device(s), and assist during the lesson when needed.

In the case where connection is poor and a successful lesson is not possible, that particular lesson will be rescheduled.

The same "missed lessons" policy applies for online lessons.

Termination of Lessons

To discontinue lessons before the end of the term, please notify me at least 3 weeks in advance the intention to withdraw from lessons or take a planned absence such as a vacation. The 3-lesson period commences upon verbal or written notification. Tuition is payable for the duration of the 3-lesson period whether lessons are taken or not. Refunds will be given via cheque or e-transfers for the remaining balance.

Materials, Festivals and Competitions

Students are responsible for the purchase of all books and materials required for their lessons, as well as any fees associated with festivals or competitions students choose to take part.

Studio Schedule

In the case that there is a scheduling conflict and you are unable to attend your regular lesson time, please review the studio schedule to see which student/family you may be able to switch with that particular week to ease the hassle of rescheduling. In the case of unforeseen scheduling conflicts, I will do my best to accommodate everyone's needs.
